The Chinese martial arts has a long history. There are
several styles of Taiji and several legends on its establishment.
One such legend has to do with Laozi, also known as Laojun,
who lived during the late Spring and Autumn Period 500
A.D.. Here is a poem that says Taiji stemmed from the birth
of the world. Laozi established the religion and Mizi learnt
from him...when he learnt the art, he became a fairy. In
addition, in other dynasties, more styles of Taiji developed,
such as the Cheng' s style, the Song's style, the Yu' s
style, the Chen's style, and so on.
The art of Taiji is one of the treasures of Chinese culture.
It combines the theories of Taoism and Chinese traditional
medicine, making it the best example of hard and soft,
fast and slow. It can make one sweat without panting, strengthen
the explosive power, and make one breath more freely. All
these help achieve the refinement of the internal and external
elements. Taiji is an exercise of both the body and the
mind (because the mind, breathing and physical actions
are combined in Taiji.). Its soft and slow movements are
relaxing and relieves the pressures of work and life and
the hard and fast movements make us stronger. It is suitable
for all kinds of people. Taiji emphasizes the combination
of moving and stillness to regulate the Yin and Yang. The
combination of its principles and artistic conceptions
make practicing Taiji beneficial to the whole life of a
person.
Now, the martial art teachers in the East-west Bridge
Kungfu Camp, all of whom are senior Kungfu coaches or students
of the general coach of Shanghai Martial Art Band, Zhangfuyun,
will teach our students Yang's Taiji, which originated
in Qing Dynasty. The renowned Jet Li is also Mr. Zhang's
student. Our courses consist of the 24 formula, the 48
formula and the whole series of Yang's Taiji. Our camp
recruits ethnic Chinese students and foreigners from all
over the world. In addition to martial arts training, our
Camp, in order to further meet the students' needs, also
offers Chinese, Chinese painting and calligraphy, acupuncture,
massage and health care, Chinese cooking and other courses
with Chinese specialties. Moreover, we can help plan and
arrange the tourist programs; for example, you could visit
the ShaolinTemple located in Song Mountains in Henan province.
If necessary, family-style accommodations are also available.
